Guide: Fix ‘Windows 10 Task Manager Not Working’ Issue

The Task Manager is a powerful tool that most people use to manage their PC. It can help you force software to shut down when it crashes or stops working, and it can also provide crucial information such as running processes, memory usage, system performance and disk usage.

If Task Manager stops working on your Windows 10 PC, it’s likely that one of your programs is causing the PC to slow down. To check which program is causing the slowdown, open Task Manager and look for the program that’s causing the PC to slow down. If you can’t find the program, you may need to fix it. There are several reasons why Task Manager isn’t working properly and chances are you have no idea where to fix the problem.

Task Manager is a great tool that can help you manage your tasks and keep them organized. However, there are some solutions that work better than what’s preinstalled on your Windows 10 computer. If all else fails, I’ll share an alternative that is better than what’s preinstalled on your computer.

1. How to Open it

If you don’t have a right-click context menu, you can try using the following methods:

  1. Open Task Manager by pressing Alt+Tab and then clicking on the taskbar.
  2. Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Esc and then clicking on the taskbar.
  3. Open Task Manager by pressing Shift+Esc and then clicking on the taskbar.

The first keyboard shortcut is for moving the cursor to the beginning of the next line. The second keyboard shortcut is for moving the cursor to the end of the current line.

2. Task management disabled by administrator

Task Manager needs administrator rights to function properly. If your administrator has disabled it, you need to contact your administrator and ask him or her to re-enable it.

Do you want to use it on a guest account? Log into Windows 10 with your primary or administrator account. Press Windows + R to open the Run prompt. Type gpedit.msc and hit enter.

The Group Policy Editor window will open. Navigate to the following folder structure and double click Delete Task Manager.

Ctrl + Alt + Del options to shutdown the computer.

In the next pop-up, check Enabled and click OK.

The task manager should now work even if you are using a guest user account, which is useful if you want to use the task manager on a computer that is not your own.

3. Not responding incorrectly

Windows 10: The Task Manager does not respond. To fix this, press Windows + R button Type regedit and press Enter to start the Run prompt.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon There you will find a key called “UserInit”. Double-click on it to open the UserInit registry subkey. In this key, you will find a value called “Shell”. Change the value of this to “C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe” (without the quotes). This will open a command prompt window in which you can start your computer. ..

If you don’t have the system folder in Policies, you need to do something else.

DisableTaskMgr is a registry key that can be used to disable task manager. If it exists, delete it. If not, check if there is a system folder named DisableTaskMgr and if there is, delete it.

4. Scan for malware and viruses

One of the problems caused by getting infected with malware and viruses is that these programs can shut down critical Windows features, such as Task Manager. I recommend that you download and install Malwarebytes, which is a free program.

While you’re at it, you should also scan your PC with an antivirus program and a malware scanner. This will help to find most vulnerabilities and cleanse your computer of any malicious content. Once those programs are done, open Task Manager again.

5. Re-enable Task Manager

When your computer is infected with a virus or malware, some of the system features may be disabled. Re-Enable is a software that can re-enable these features with just one click. ..

Just download the software from the link below and launch it. The interface is simple, user-friendly and clear. There are radio boxes for a lot of services, including Task Manager. By default, the software should select all options. If not, choose Task Manager and click Re-enable buttonNow try to start Task Manager.

The problem with solving problems is that they are often complex. That’s why we need to take a look at a little difficult one.

6. Run System File Checker (SFC)

Windows 10 includes a number of repair tools to help you identify possible errors. One of them is SFC or the System File Checker. As the name suggests, SFC will scan your system for corrupt files and restore them. It is possible that one of the system files related to Task Manager is damaged.

To open the Run prompt with administrator privileges, type “cmd” at the Windows+R keyboard shortcut. ..

sudo apt-get update This will update your package list. ..

To ensure that the command prompt always displays as Administrator, you can change the title in the Start menu. ..

If you don’t see Administrator, use Windows Search to find cmd (command prompt), right-click on it and select Run as administrator.

Exit the command prompt and restart your PC.

7. Run DISM

The DISM tool is used to create and maintain a Windows 10 image.

netstat -an | grep “^HTTP” This will show the active TCP/IP connections and their status. If there is a HTTP connection, it will be listed first, followed by any other connections.

Online Cleanup-Image ScanHealth

DISM -v If DISM finds some errors, the process will take 10-20 minutes.

If the errors can be fixed, run the following command to fix them. ..

The DISM / Online / Cleanup-Image / RestoreHealth tool can help restore health to a computer by removing invalid files and restoring missing files. ..

8. Process Explorer

Task Manager isn’t the only option available to you. If all else fails, you can also download and use Process Explorer. The Task Manager on my PC works fine, but I prefer to use Process Explorer.

Process Explorer is more powerful and displays more detail than the Task Manager. It measures just 1.7MB in size and can replace Task Manager. So every time you open Task Manager, Process Explorer will start instead. You can track the latest DLL of any process, find memory leaks, manage running and running processes, comes with a handy tree structure, can use it to unlock files and folders and more. The best part is that you don’t have to install it as it runs through the .exe file.
