How to Change Your Windows 11 PC’s Theme – Guide

Windows 11 comes with six beautiful themes: Windows (light), Windows (dark), Brightness, Motion captured, Sunrise and Flow. By default the Windows (light) theme is applied as the default theme on Windows 11 PCs. When you turn on dark mode, the Windows (dark) theme is applied.

Windows 11 has an easy option to change the default theme. You can easily select one of the themes offered in the Settings app. If you’re not satisfied with any of the six themes that come with Windows 11, you can download and install new themes from the Microsoft Store or another third-party website.

choose a theme

To change the Windows 11 color, open Settings > System > Personalization. From this menu, you can select a theme to apply to all Windows menus. These themes can change the background, desktop icons, taskbar, highlight colors, apps, and settings menus. Windows 11 comes with several themes preloaded, some of which make different elements black. There is an official dark theme that is available but it does not work with Glow and Motion captured themes. To change the Windows 11 color using one of these themes, you will need to install thetheme and then use it in place of the official dark theme.

You can browse the Microsoft Store to find new themes to add to your computer. To apply a theme, click on the Apply button and select Edit to change individual color elements for each theme.

Customize Colors

To change the color of the menus within Windows 11, you may prefer to change individual colors and customize what is and is not affected by dark mode. On the Personalization screen, go to Colors. You can then set a more traditional dark mode or change the accent colors. Open the Choose Your Mode drop-down menu to choose between Light, Dark and Custom. This will change the color of the menus within Windows 11, but it won’t change the background.

In the Highlight Colors section, you can choose your preferred color to be used along with the chosen mode. Select one of the palettes offered by Windows or click Show Colors on the Custom Colors menu to create your own color. Other options let you control where these accent colors appear, such as the taskbar and title bars.
