How to Check If Somebody Read your Message on Android and iOS – Guide
We’re demonstrating how to discover if someone has read your message on iOS or Android. If someone hasn’t responded within a certain amount of time, we’ll send them a notification to let them know that we think they may have missed you.
Read receipts on iPhone
If you and your recipient use the Apple iMessage service and have turned on read receipts, you’ll see the word Read below your last message to the recipient, along with the time the message was read.
Tap Messages to send a message.

Others are notified when you read their messages. If the recipient has also enabled read receipts, you will see Read below the message, along with the time it was read.
Read receipts on Android smartphones
- Open the Google Messaging app and sign in.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the main screen and find the “Settings” section.
- Scroll down to the “Read receipts” section and turn on the checkbox next to “Send messages with read receipts.”
- Click on the “Save changes” button to save your changes.
Settings is where you can control how your phone works.
To access the chat features, tap Text messages or conversations on the first page displayed. If this option is not on the first page displayed, you can access it by tapping More Settings. ..

WhatsApp Reading Receipts
To disable read receipts on WhatsApp, you can follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp and sign in.
- Click on the three lines in the top left corner of the screen.
- Choose Settings from the list that appears.
- On the Settings page, select Message Management from the left hand side of the screen.
- Under Message Management, select Read Receipts from the bottom of the screen.
- Save your changes and close WhatsApp.
Scroll down to the bottom and tap on the Security tab. Under the “WhatsApp Security” section, you’ll find a list of options. Tap on the “Add security code” button. Enter your WhatsApp security code in the text field and click on the “Add to Profile” button.
To prevent the other person from knowing when you’ve read a message, turn off the “Read Receipts” toggle button. ..
Receipts are disabled and the two blue checkmarks do not appear in messages you send or read.

To see all the messages sent by WhatsApp, open the app and type in “whatsApp” into the search bar. You will then see a list of all the messages that have been sent by your phone.

If read receipts are not disabled, you will see the time your message was delivered and read as well as the date and time.
Final note
Android and iOS users have different ways of checking if somebody has read their message. On Android, this is done by checking the message’s read count. iOS does not have a read count, but instead checks to see if the user has interacted with the message.
