How To Delete Comments in MS Excel – Guide

Comments are a great way to add information to cells without changing the content. I use them a lot when I’m working with formulas and need to specify what a formula does and what a cell value means. When working with others, you can also add comments for others to see. In that tutorial, I’ll show you everything you need to know about comments – including how to insert comments in Excel, edit/delete comments, delete comments from the entire spreadsheet or workbook, etc. ..

Delete all comments

Suppose you have a dataset as shown below and you want to quickly delete the comment in cell C3. To do this, you would use the following code: DELETE FROM comment INNER JOIN comment_date ON comment_date.comment_id=C3;

  1. Select the cell in which you want to delete the comment.
  2. On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click Delete.
  3. In the Delete Comment dialog box, select the comment you want to delete and click Delete. ..

If you want to delete all sheet comments (here cells B4, D3 and D5), select the entire sheet by pressing CTRL + A on your keyboard and on the Ribbon go to Review > Delete.

This way, Excel will erase all comments from the selected sheet.

Delete a single comment

Comment B4: This is a great table! Comment D3: This is a great table! Comment D5: This is a great table!

To delete a single comment in Excel, right-click a cell with a comment (for example, B4) and click Delete Comment.

Another way to achieve the same is to select the cell with a comment (eg B4), click on the three dots in the top right corner of the comment, and click Delete Topic.

The third option for deleting a comment is to select the cell (here B4) and on the Ribbon go to Review > Delete.

The comment for cell B4 is deleted and the purple comment sign in the upper-right corner of the cell will disappear.

Final note

If you want to delete comments from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, here’s how to do it. First, open the spreadsheet and make sure that all the cells are filled in. Then, click on the cell that you want to delete the comment from. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to delete the comment permanently or just for this particular sheet. Click on the Delete button and your comment will be gone!
