Guide: How to Disable Google Smart Lock on Android and Chrome

I used to love the Smart Lock feature on Google’s Chrome browser. The ease with which it had multiple passwords in Chrome and my phone made my work buttery soft. I no longer had to remember a strange combination of letters and alphabets. I let Google take care of everything for me.

In a few years, I noticed that the password implementation in my company was weak. Anyone who had access to my laptop could see my passwords. All they had to do was go to Settings> Manage Passwords and click on the eye icon.

Android apps that support Smart Lock are few and far between. ..

Twitter became an annoyance because I had to remember my passwords, which I tended to forget.

Google Smart Lock is a feature that is exclusive to Chrome. It does not have a password generator or dedicated user interface. So, if you are looking for a way to protect your passwords, Smart Lock may not be the best option for you.

If you have the same doubts, disabling Google’s Smart Lock isn’t rocket science. So let’s take a look how to do it.

How about Smart Lock for Android

This feature is a lock screen security measure that uses your Android phone’s camera to take a picture of the person or thing you’re trying to unlock and store it in the cloud. The next time you try to unlock your phone, the photo will be used as your password.

When you’re out and about, you may be expecting your phone to automatically unlock when it’s in a trusted location like your car or home. But in reality, this may not always happen. For example, if you have your Bluetooth music system in your car and the device is paired with your phone, it might not unlock until you get home.

However, if someone were to steal your phone and smartwatch, they would have to go through all of the trouble of breaking into your home or stealing from your car. In that case you would be left with nothing.

To switch this feature off, go to Settings> Lock Screen Security> Smart Lock. This can differ per device. If you don’t find it here, just search for the same in the search bar.

If you want to disable your device, tap the place and select Disable.

What now?

Chrome’s Smart Lock feature was removed in a recent update, so how do you manage it now? In addition to remembering passwords, I switched to Dashlane. Now I just need to remember a master password (*laughs from ear to ear *).

Dashlane is a great password manager that also uses AES-256 encryption. This makes it very secure and easy to remember your passwords.

The product has a password health feature and a security dashboard.

Password manager or Smart Lock?

Google’s Smart Lock is a security feature that allows users to bypass the login screen by using voice commands. However, its security scenarios are far too severe to ignore. For example, if someone is able to access your account without your knowledge, they could potentially steal your data or even worse.
