This is happening through the use of government regulations and laws that limit what reporters can report, how they can report it, and who can hear it. This trend began in the Obama administration with the passage of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. This law was designed to prevent banks from engaging in unfair practices with their customers, but it also had another purpose: to muzzle journalists. The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act was a disaster for press freedom. It created new government regulations that were so restrictive that many reporters were unable to do their jobs properly. The law also made it difficult for people to learn about important news stories, which caused many important stories to be left out of the public eye. Since then, there have been other examples of government censorship and suppression of free speech in America. For example, President Trump has been using his power to restrict what reporters are able to report about him and his administration. He has also used his power to limit what people can see on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. These examples show just how important press freedom is in America today. If we want our country to remain a democracy where people can freely express themselves, we need to protect press freedom!
