How to make a GIF from a YouTube video on a PC for free – Guide

  1. YouTube Video Editor: This is the most popular YouTube video editor on the internet. It’s free to use and has a lot of features. You can add text, graphics, and videos to your videos. You can also add music and sound effects.
  2. GIMP: GIMP is a free software program that you can use to create GIFs. It’s easy to use and has a lot of features than YouTube Video Editor.
  3. Adobe Photoshop: Adobe Photoshop is another popular program that you can use to create GIFs. It’s easy to use and has a lot of features than GIMP or YouTube Video Editor.

Step 1: Paste URL in YouTube Video

Open Kapwing’s video conversion tool and paste the URL of your YouTube video you want to convert to GIF. Kapwing supports all videos under 30 minutes and under 500 MB, and there is no watermark. In this example, I’m converting a scene from a David Dobrik vlog, so I copied and pasted this URL into Kapwing. Note that Kapwing also accepts other types of URLs, such as links from Vimeo, Google Drive, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, and more. You can also choose to send an MP4 file, MOV file or a video made on your phone.

Step 2: Convert a section of the video to GIF

Once your video loads into Studio’s editor, you’ll see the complete video layer appear on the timeline. Use the sliders on the final to cut the section you want to convert to GIF. I suggest you search through the video to find the part you want and use “Split” button to cut off the beginning and ending parts.

It is possible to convert any video size to GIF, but you should try to convert a clip less than 10 seconds long. If your segment is longer than 10 seconds long, your GIF may be pixelated or low resolution. After cropping your video, preview the GIF to see what the output will look like. You can make other edits such as changing the video speed, cropping or adding a text overlay. I slowed down my GIF to make it appear in slowmo.

To ensure the GIF comes out at a reasonable frame rate, I recommend cropping your video to less than 10 seconds before converting it to GIF. Note that GIF files have no audio, so the output will be muted. If you want to add music to your GIF, you will need to make it an MP4.

Kapwing is a free app that lets you convert YouTube videos into GIFs. You can use Kapwing to convert any YouTube video, not just those that are in GIF format. Kapwing is available on iOS and Android devices. ..

Step 3: Export and Share GIF

After selecting the desired section, click the dropdown arrow next to the green “Export” button. Choose “Export as GIF” to process your converted GIF. After the GIF is processed, save the GIF by clicking the Download button button or long press if you are in a phone or tablet. If you are not logged in to a Kapwing account, please login or login up using your Google or Facebook account – after logging into a Kapwing account, the watermark in the lower left corner will be removed from your final GIF.

Please remember that GIFs are not supported on Instagram! If you’re trying to share a GIF on Instagram, download it as an MP4 file. If your GIF file is too large, try setting a custom size to make it a smaller resolution. Click “Edit” to go back and make additional changes.
