To start using your phone like the Google TV remote, you first need to make sure it’s using the latest version of the Google TV app. Just click on the link below to be taken to the Play Store and check it out, or you can just search for ‘Google TV’ in the Play Store. Once the app is updated, it’s time to get started.
The question some may be having is whether this also works with Android TV devices that don’t use the updated Google TV interface. Unfortunately, the answer to that question is yes, as we’ve tried it with our Chromecast with Google TV and Hisense TV with Android TV.
If you don’t see the remote control icon on your Google TV app or when you start the TV, make sure that Android TV Remote Services has been updated. After the update is complete, restart your TV and Google TV app on your phone.
Controlling your Google TV
After your phone has been paired to Google TV, you can just start using it like any other remote control. There is even a power Button in the upper right corner next to your device selection.
To use your phone’s trackpad, you need to swipe left or right. If you want to use the D-pad controls, just press and hold the trackpad button.
You can now use your phone like a traditional remote, by tapping either side of the circle to navigate, while tapping the middle to make a selection.
The Google TV app has a lot of great features, but it can be difficult to use them all at once. That’s why the company has integrated the remote into your phone so you can access all of its functions with just a few quick clicks.
